Shuffle the Deck

Here's a musical blog-filling trick I learned from my brother: Set your iPod or -- if you're like me -- your non-iPod-but-still-just-as-good mp3 player on random play and take note of the first dozen (or baker's dozen) songs you get. Sometimes it's representative of your tastes and sometimes it's a little embarrassing. Today's offerings:

    • 'A Train Robbery,' Levon Helm
    • 'Scuttle Buttin',' Stevie Ray Vaughan
    • 'My Ding-a-Ling,' Chuck Berry
    • 'Casino Boogie,' Rolling Stones
    • 'I'm Glad for Your Sake,' Ray Charles
    • 'All the Way From Memphis,' Mott the Hoople
    • 'She Used to Love Me a Lot,' David Allan Coe
    • 'Stones in the Road,' Mary Chapin Carpenter
    • 'Dealer's Blues,' Doug Sahm
    • 'Long Time Gone,' the Flatlanders
    • 'The Price Is Too High,' Slim Harpo
    • '999,' Keith Richards
    • 'I'm a Rocker,' Bruce Springsteen
I'm not sure how that Mary Chapin Carpenter snuck in there. I think I bought it for my wife.

I promise not to use this device more than once a month.
